Brownbag Session on the encompassing wars in Syria

We have an awesome opportunity to sit down and have lunch with Mr. Courtney Brown on April 5th to discuss the three encompassing wars in Syria:
(1) the war between the opposition and Assad
(2) the war against ISIS (and how the USGovernment is approaching it)
(3) the war within the opposition (between moderate and extremist elements (consisting of al Qaeda).

Courtney Brown’s Bio

For the past five years, Courtney Brown has lived in Turkey managing humanitarian and non-lethal assistance programs for the US State Department inside Syria.  Working as part of the Syria Transition Assistance Response Team (START), Brown managed programs that focused on providing humanitarian assistance to war-affected populations inside Syria.  Additionally, he served as civilian advisor for the creation of a plan for the destruction of ISIS working with the US Government’s Department of Defense and other Coalition partners.  Finally, he is the Country Representative for USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives managing a $150m program focused on limiting the growing influence of extremist ideologies within Syria.  Brown is one of the most knowledgeable advisors on Syria currently within the US Government.  He routinely briefs the White House (National Security Council), Department of Defense (Office of the Secretary of Defense and Combatant Commands), USAID, and the US Department of State.
Brown is from Albemarle, North Carolina, and is an alumnus of UNC (Class of ’96).
